Located to the south of Caldaro in the middle of vineyards lies a light blue jewel. It is the lake of Caldaro, the largest and most popular bathing lake of South Tyrol. Speaking about superlatives: in summer,lake of Caldaro reaches water temperatures of almost tropical 28 degrees, making it the warmest lake in the Alps. No wonder that you can find all fans of water sports here: swimmers, sailers, windsurfers, the latest using especially the public bathing beaches on the west shore of the lake to get into the water.Those who do not feel like getting wet, or who come to lake Caldaro in the wrong season for taking a bath, should take at least a walk around the lake. Always along the shore there is a picturesque, eight kilometers long, almost flat hiking trail.

Not only is the hiking trail around the lake of Caldaro breathtaking, also the lake set in the middle of vineyards of Oltradige offers a fairy-tale like landscape. Here through leads the South Tyrolean Wine Route, one of the most scenic roads for wine lovers. Gentle hills, vast vineyards and villages with lovingly preserved historic town centers and some noble wines are the perfect combination: the Gewürztraminer and the Traminer come from this area. Along with these, even other varieties from this cultivation area are recently producing excellent wines.

The last thing to sort out is to find a hotel on Lake Caldaro. The answer is clear: The Hotel Weingarten is located near the lake itself in the heart of the fantastic Oltradige vineyards and is therefore an ideal starting point for exploring the Lake of Caldaro and South Tyrol.
